RE: I-77 South thru WV and VA ?? Good/Bad or Ugly??

For those reading this post but starting off farther east than the original poster, consider US route 19 (exit 57 of I-79) thru Summersville (watch speed; 50 mph means 50 mph) all the way to Beckley. However, for those coming from Ohio, Michigan, etc., when you're on I-77, you might as well stay on it thru Charleston, WV.

RE: Montreal to Florida Keys

Two boondocking possibilities:
Flying J in Brunswick, GA
Flying J in St. Augustine
Sorry, can't help with Richmond as we're farther west when heading thru VA. However, we have stayed at the Flying J (!) in Wyethville, VA (actually there are two very close to each other).

RE: Columbia South Carolina

Ditto on Sesquicentennial. Been there twice; close to I-77 and lots of shopping between the interchange and the park. The sites are quite large as I recall. Water/electric and a dumping station.

RE: Feel'n Hot Hot Hot

Our daughter-in-law sewed on "sun-block" material to each curtain in the Roadtrek which makes a world of difference. It faces out towards the windows.
We also use the Fantastic Fan and modified it to run in the reverse direction as well as its original direction. Now, we can get a nice breeze that cools the person standing under it in the galley area. It also doesn't suck in smoke from other camper's fires. Of course, we still use the normal position to expel the hot air out the top.

RE: Garmin C340 problem(s)

Garmin's customer service opens at 8:00 AM Central Time, and I was lucky to get a knowledgeable rep at 9:00 AM Eastern this morning. She walked me through the setup of the "new" unit - some "avoidances" in the navigation menu were checked off in error - I suppose that's the default mode - and I didn't realize it. So now the unit is performing OK, and I hope it stays that way. I did download the voice "Jack" from Garmin's website, as my wife found "Jill" to have an "annoying" voice. Yes, I know, Jack and Jill went......!!

RE: Quiet Furnace?

Why the sudden interest in furnaces in August?
Oh yeah, maybe 'cause it's been a very cool August so far and very wet. Gosh, things are getting real dry; it hasn't rained for at least two hours!!

RE: Roadtrek Fuel Economy

But in your original post, you mentioned that you were looking at a 1987 (Dodge I presume). Its low cost compared to the newer Sprinters will buy a lot of gas.

RE: Printing Labels--Recommendations for Inkjet Printers?

I have tried many ways to print labels successfully. HP says there is no solution.
Sounds like it's a "lemon". Does your state have a "lemon law"?

RE: Printing Labels--Recommendations for Inkjet Printers?

We had a similar need to not print out a whole sheet of labels. Did a google search and found a website that had MS Word templates, e.g. Avery 5161, 5162, etc. They're nice because a whole sheet of labels is shown, and you can type on your first available label if some are already used. It's WYSIWYG, so that's convenient. But sorry, I forget what site I downloaded these templates from. Our HP psc1210 almost always prints them out perfectly, but like a previous poster said, we always use a sheet of paper first, just to be safe.

RE: Garmin C340 problem(s)

Well, I promised to report on our GPS saga, which ufortunately is continuing. As directed by Garmin in Kansas, I sent the defective C340 to the Canadian repair facility in Montreal. After one month, I phoned them to find out what was happening, and I was told that they couldn't fix it, but would send a replacement C340. It arrived last week, and it is "different" than my old one...bizarre directions and bizzare instructions when "re-calculating". So I'll be phoning Garmin tomorrow morning with the customary two-hour call to see what can be done. BTW, the replacement unit has only a three-month warranty :(
So at this point, we're not "happy campers" and are very disappointed in Garmin.

RE: Quiet Furnace?

Our Suburban furnace is right under the bed, and it's a noisy sucker for sure. In the winter, we use the furnace before we tuck into our thick warm sleeping bags, and then don't turn it on until the morning. The Roadtrek Versatile also allows us to close off the "bedroom" or the "bedroom/kitchen/bathroom" from the rest of the van to conserve heat. Finally, we have thermal insulators on all window curtains, and an aluminum bubble insulator on the back window, and under the bed. After all, we're in Canada, the great white north!

RE: suggestions for savannah CG

Ft. McAllister SP in Richmond Hill, GA with easy access to Savannah and I-95 is our first choice, but Skidaway's sites are similarly large and private.

RE: Article: US agents given powers to seize/search laptops

I just finished reading SENATOR FEINGOLD'S STATEMENT regarding this law, and it appears that only US citizen's laptops are subject to this DHS procedure. However, being a "judicious Canadian", I still think I'll probably leave the laptop at home.

RE: Article: US agents given powers to seize/search laptops

We've contemplated taking our laptop with us when crossing into the US, for checking email, doing banking, and looking at RV-related info I've bookmarked over the years. Now, we'll just leave it at home. There's absolutely nothing on it that I'd be afraid to let Homeland Security look at, but the thing that disturbs me is that (as stated in a previous post) .....The Department of Homeland Security will be allowed to carry out seizures without suspicion of wrongdoing and can hold devices for a "reasonable period of time."
When we cross the border, we're generally heading south to escape the winter cold, so hanging around in Buffalo, New York, for example, waiting for our laptop would not be pleasant!

RE: Leave Your Suits At Home? - Pinery PP

Unless you're into skinny-dipping, you'd better take your suits, according to the somewhat reassuring first item in THIS ARTICLE.

RE: Best way to the Pinery

We've also tried the 403/401/402 route to the Pinery from Mississauga, but actually found that the "scenic but not congested" route we described in a previous post is quicker, and of course shorter. IMHO, the 402 puts you too far south of the Pinery. Our route puts you onto hwy 21 just a little bit north of the Pinery entrance, thus avoiding the horrendous Grand Bend to Pinery traffic, especially when the flea market is open.

RE: Best way to the Pinery

Here's the route we use to get from Mississauga to the Pinery. It is scenic, but avoids congested areas. It works very well for us!
DIRECTIONS TO PINERY PROVINCIAL PARK
Trafalgar Road north to 401 West.
401 West to exit 278 – Kitchener.
7/8 West to Wilmot-Easthope Rd.
Left (south) on Wilmot-Easthope Rd. for a short distance and veer to the right on Road 101/24 to Tavistock. Road number changes to 26 in Tavistock.
Continue on Road 26 past the village of Harmony until Highway 7.
Left on Highway 7 until Highway 4 at Elginfield.
Right onto Highway 4 until Road 5.
Left onto Road 5 (Mt. Carmel Dr.)
Road 5 changes its name to Greenway Drive. Stay on it all the way to Highway 21. Note: There is a confusing part of this route where Road 5 becomes Road 81 for a very short distance. Don’t panic!
Turn left to get to the park entrance on the right.

RE: How Do You Fix Small Window Screens?

We've taken several of our screens to a screen shop. Now these screens are better than new.
The bug-barrier screens were a different story, though. The screen shop couldn't fix them as they didn't have an industrial sewing machine for the vinyl flaps. We removed all three bug-barrier screens (2 side windows and back window) when we priced new ones and found that they were too costly.
For even greater ventilation in the front than what was provided by the bug-barriers, we ordered "Skreenz" for the 2 front windows and are very happy with them. (www.skreenz.com).

RE: Does anyone check out the site before paying?

Yes, we'll often drive through and just turn around and drive right out. Once, the comfort station was so filthy, that you had to wipe your shoes on the way out!! We didn't stay!!
